Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Health Services Inc. is seeking a mission-driven and experienced leader skilled in successfully executing strategic plans and empowering high performing staff. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be based at PBCN Health Services’ central office in Prince Albert, and have overall management responsibility for leading a successful organization and working to create the most impact possible on the health and wellness of the PBCN communities.

PBCN Health Services is a First Nations incorporated, non-profit organization operating under a 10-year, tri-partite agreement between PBCN Chief & Council, the PBCN Health Services’ Board of Directors and Indigenous Services Canada. With an annual budget of over 40M and over 200 employees it is responsible for delivering a wide array of health programs and services in seven PBCN northern communities, including 3 primary care centers.

Position Overview:

This is a full-time permanent position for immediate hire and reports to a supportive community-based Board of Directors. This key leadership position is responsible for overseeing the strategic plan, programs and services, and the administration of the organization. The position requires a dynamic, community-driven leader who is passionate about managing hands-on operations, fostering growth, and developing and guiding First Nation communities and health programs and services.

Some of the Key Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Providing overall Executive Leadership & Organizational Management;
  • Support Board Governance;
  • Financial Management & Administration through strategic leadership;
  • External & Internal Relations & Communications within and outside the organization and communities.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this role embraces servant-leadership as well as a thoughtful approach to day-to-day operational management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership. Qualified candidates should bring:

  • A minimum five (5) years of experience in a senior strategic leadership role within a First Nation, government and/or health organization or a degree with at least three (3) years of experience in the management of organizations of comparable size, mission, programs and services.
  • A strong passion for working with First Nations communities and improving the health and wellness of the people.
  • Proven experience and ability in working collaboratively with First Nations leadership, staff and communities.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and collaborative work environment by fostering an environment of accountability, healthy work relationships and inclusivity.
  • Familiarity with diverse organizational functions such as Community Development, Capacity Building, Public Relations, Human Resources, Finances, Strategic Planning etc.
  • Proven abilities and experience in fiscal management and securing Board approval for a complex budget.
  • Ability to review current organizational programs/structures and make recommendations for enhanced, effective service delivery and organizational operations.
  • Desire to explore innovative approaches and new ideas in addressing challenges and providing effective programs and services.
  • Experience and success motivating, recruiting, developing, retaining and mentoring high performance, community driven and results-oriented teams.
  • Expertise in conflict management, building teams and developing partnerships.
  • Excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to speak Cree and a lived knowledge of the Woodland Cree culture would be an asset.
