Position Overview and Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Holistic Health Coordinator, the Youth Worker is responsible for providing individual and group support services with the purpose of developing life skills and personal well-being for the youth within the community. In collaboration with the Holistic Health team, the youth worker will undertake the planning, development, coordination and implementation of support services.

 

Job Duties

  • Promoting community-based youth programs that encourage healthy lifestyles
  • Assessing the needs of the youth and planning programs and services that meet these needs
  • Participating in inter-agency meetings, programs, and initiatives
  • Organizing and implementing planned activities for the youth and their families in cooperation with the school, health and recreation committees
  • Assisting other Health Team members in the delivery of health-related programs involving youth/families
  • Referring at-risk youth to the appropriate health professional for follow-up
  • Acting as liaison between the youth and other community agencies regarding health and social issues
  • Maintaining a positive image and being a role model for the youth
  • Preparing regular monthly and statistical reports
  • Other related duties that may be assigned from time to time

 

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent;
  • Experience working with youth;
  • 2 years’ sobriety;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and facilitate group sessions;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong computer and excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Be self-motivated, creative, willing to learn, eager to help;
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license;
  • Current Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Driver’s Abstract and verification of full covid 19 vaccinations;
  • Ability to speak Cree is an asset.
